No longer is the third season of La Brea expected to premiere in the autumn of 2023. The third installment does not yet have a release date, but NBC has verified that it will air during the midseason/summer of 2024. We regret having to deliver bad tidings!
La Brea Season 3 Is Officially Happening
Fans of La Brea did not have to wait long for the third season renewal, as the announcement was made before the conclusion of the second season! Indeed, NBC granted the series the green light in January 2023, and according to Deadline, the second season averaged 3.6 million viewers at the time. The program has been a huge success for NBC, so it comes as no surprise that it will continue.

Count of La Brea Season 3 Episodes
Season 1 of La Brea had ten episodes, while season 2 had fourteen. As of the time of this writing, NBC has ordered six episodes for the third season. There may be additional additions in the future, but we must wait and see. Currently, some publications speculate that fewer episodes could indicate the end of the series’ run. According to Deadline, the program was “likely” to end after the third season, but creator David Appelbaum told TV Line in February, “We’re not wrapping it up.”

Will the Strike of Writers and Actors Hinder the Third Season of La Brea?
Since the Writers Guild Association (WGA) has been on strike since May 1, all writers’ rooms for impending seasons with contracts from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) have been halted. And as of July 13, the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), also known as the actors, are on strike, meaning that the leaders of these television programs cannot work.
What does this signify for season three of La Brea? The good news is that, according to Appelbaum’s March interview with SYFY Wire, episode writing for the new season had already begun. Variety reported that production would take place in Queensland, Australia, where it was believed filming would commence shortly after.
And in June, actress Zyra Gorecki confirmed on Instagram that filming for the third season of La Brea had concluded by posting photos of actor Eoin Macken pouring champagne over her head.
The writers and actors strike has not directly affected the third season of La Brea, but it appears that NBC is delaying it so that they have content to air in 2024. It is probable that the network expects a number of their scripted shows to be postponed due to the strikes, so delaying the release of La Brea season 3 until they actually need it appears to be their strategy.
