However, you might need a refresher on all the faces that are soon to make a comeback, given how large the cast is for Our Flag Means Death. This is a list of all the people you should be aware of.
The Characters and Cast of Our Flag Means Death
The plot of Our Flag Means Death is as follows: “Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge after trading in the seemingly idyllic life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer.” Stede, who was having trouble winning the respect of his possibly rebellious crew, had a disastrous encounter with Waititi’s portrayal of the notorious Captain Blackbeard. To their astonishment, the radically different Blackbeard and Stede discovered love on the high seas in addition to friendship. They must now endure it.
The main characters that are most likely to appear in the second season are mentioned here, along with any previous locations where you may have seen their actors.
Stede Bonnet – Rhys Darby
In the Film, Rhys Darby Portrays Stede Monnet, a Wealthy Landowner from Barbados Who abandoned his Noble Life to Become a Pirate.
In the first season, Bonnet sailed the high seas, gathering a motley crew of seamen and falling in love with Edward “Ed” Teach, a fellow pirate captain (also known as Blackbeard). The pair’s relationship has been called into doubt going into Season 2, as Stede longs for his former life.
Renowned comedian Darby from New Zealand frequently works with Taika Waititi. His work on Flight of the Concords and the film What We Do in the Shadows is what made him most famous.
Taika Waititi – Edward “ed” Teach/Blackbeard
Director of Thor: Ragnarok Taika Waititi portrays famed pirate captain Edward “Ed” Teach/Blackbeard, who has grown weary of his life of plundering until he learns about and subsequently encounters the new pirate Stede Bonnet. In Season 2, Ed takes revenge on Stede and his crew in order to cope with his sadness after they appear to call it quits at the end of Season 1.
Over the past five or six years, Waititi has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most popular directors, having directed Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder, and the Oscar-nominated Jojo Rabbit.
Joel Buttons – Ewen Bremner
The witty Ewen Brenner brings Nathaniel Buttons to life. On the Revenge, Nathaniel serves as Stede’s first mate and assists the novice pirate captain in learning about the world of peg-legged and pillage. He has shown a talent for communicating with and comprehending seagulls and is as devoted as they come.
Brenner had earlier roles in Alien vs. Predator, Wonder Woman (Patty Jenkins), and Trainspotting, costarring Ewan McGregor from Star Wars.
Frenchie Joel Fry
In Our Flag Means Death, Joel Fry plays the part of Frenchie. Frenchie, another member of the Revenge crew, frequently uses his seductive voice to serenade the group of pirates. After Stede and the infamous pirate called off their on-the-sea romance (at least for the time being), Frenchie joined Blackbeard’s crew in Season 2.
Fry, who portrayed Hizdahr zo Loraq in Game of Thrones, has experience working on HBO projects. In addition, he acted opposite Emma Stone in Disney’s Cruella and directed Yesterday in 2019.
Oluwande Boodhari – Samson Kayo
One of the more sensible people on the Revenger crew, Oluwande Boodhari (played by Samson Kayo) does his best to keep Stede safe in his new role as captain among his fellow pirates. By the end of the first season, Oluwande had become fond of Jim Jimenez and the two had developed a romantic relationship. Blood, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and The Bubble are just a few of Kayo’s prior credits.
Lucius Spriggs – Nathan Foad
The Revenge’s scribe is Nathan Foad’s character, Luccius Spriggs. He records the exploits of the ship and acts as a sounding board for his captain, Stede Bonnet, oftentimes assisting Stede in processing his emotions.
Additionally, Foad appears in Bloods, Dope Fiend, Newark, and Newark.
Jim Jimenez – Vico Ortiz
Jim Jimenez is Oluwande Boodhari’s current lover and another member of the Revenge team. Jim, portrayed by Vico Ortiz, disguises himself as mute and boards the Revenge with his close buddy Oluwande. He joins Blackbeard’s crew at the end of Season 1 and becomes a formidable combatant who is also wanted in Season 2.
Actor and activist Ortiz is a Latina/x non-binary/gender fluid Puerto Rican, most recognized for her roles in Transparent on Prime Video and The Sex Lives of College Girls.
Wee John Feeney by Kristian Nairn
Wee John Feeney, played by Kristian Nairn, is as enigmatic as they come on the Revenge. Although not much is known about his past, he is nonetheless regarded as an important part of Stede’s crew of sailors. Whether the crew likes it or not, Wee John is the Revenge’s demolition specialist because he has shown a fondness for everything that goes “BOOM!”
In addition to his roles in Ripper Street and The Appearance, Nairn is most recognized for his tenure as Hodor on HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Badminton Captain Nigel Rory Kinnear
Captain Nigel Badminton, a British Naval Captain entrusted with eliminating as many pirates as he can, is portrayed by Rory Kinnear.
Nigel was the main enemy of Stede and the Revenge crew for the majority of Season 1, however, he tragically committed suicide by falling onto his sword. After his death, his ghost continued to be present in the first season, but he hasn’t made an appearance in Season 2.
Among Kinnear’s previous credits are the Daniel Craig-led James Bond movie and Benedict Cumberbatch’s The Imitation Game.
Israel “IZZY” Hands – Con O’Neill
One of the main adversaries in Our Flag Means Death Season 1 is Israel “Izzy” Hands.
Izzy is portrayed by Con O’Neill as Blackbeard’s second-in-command, and she briefly leads the Revenge when Blackbeard and Stede are exiled in Season 1. At the conclusion of the first batch of episodes, the character regains control of the Revenge and returns as Blackbeard’s first mate in Season 2.
Additionally, Con O’Neill appears in HBO’s Chernobyl and DC’s The Batman.
Calico Jack/jack Rackham, Played by Will Arnett
Will Arnett is Jack Rackham, often known as Calico Jack, a deposed captain who once served under Captain Hornigold with Blackbeard.
In a Season 1 episode, Jack makes an appearance and, after killing Karl the Seagull, causes a brief split between Blackbeard and Stede. Jack was unintentionally injured by a warning shot and ultimately perished at the hands of the English.
Arnett’s previous credits include the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles duology starring Michael Bay, The LEGO Batman Movie, and Arrested Development.
