This week, pop sensation Taylor Swift created Billboard history by being the first performer to land all 10 top 10 spots on the Billboard Hot 100. The song “Anti-Hero” But Swift also achieved a significant milestone: her net worth surpassed that of Kanye West.
It’s difficult to pinpoint the exact value of either artist, but West lost almost $1 billion in net worth when his Adidas AG ADDYY contract was terminated.
Swift, on the other hand, recently released her 10th studio album, “Midnights,” which includes the hits “Karma” and “Midnight Rain.” The album has experienced immediate financial success (Karma is now ranked 9 on the Billboard Hot 100). When Drake scored nine out of ten in September of last year, he was the only artist to come close to securing every top-10 spot on Billboard’s list.
Swift’s net worth is estimated by Forbes to be around $570 million. When you compare that to West’s estimated net worth of $400 million, as reported by the same publication, Swift has already surpassed the contentious designer and artist.
Swift’s income primarily comes from her music library and royalties, but West’s wealth is primarily derived from his success with the Yeezy shoe line, which he created in partnership with Adidas. Swift is entitled to a larger share of royalties than some other musicians because she is a writer or co-writer on each and every one of her songs.
West vs. Swift
Swift and West have a notorious connection that began after West interrupted Swift in 2009 during the MTV Video Music Awards.
Then, in his 2016 song “Famous,” where he asserts that he made Taylor Swift famous, West made reference to Swift by name.
It’s odd that West says that his VMA prank made Swift famous because, at the time, she was accepting the “Best Music Video of the Year” award on a major international platform when West interrupted her.
West has been losing commercial partnerships in recent weeks. Following a financial conflict or his racist remarks on social media and TV, several firms have cut their relationship with the “Gold Digger” singer:
- Adidas ended a seven-year business partnership.
- TJX Companies Inc. has stopped carrying Yeezy items.
- Peloton Interactive Inc. is no longer using West’s music
- Foot Locker Inc. is pulling Yeezys from its sales floors
- Gap Inc. Ye gave notice to Gap that he was terminating their contract.
- JPMorgan Chase & Co. is no longer providing banking services to West.
West’s associations with Balenciaga, CAA, UMG/Def Jam, and Vogue have also been severed.
Conversely, Swift doesn’t appear to have any “Bad Blood” with well-known companies. The “Blank Space” singer has endorsements and agreements with Wonderstruck Perfume, Covergirl, Keds, L.E.I. Jeans, Got Milk?, Coca-Cola, and Apple Music, among others.
